Citizens of the European Union may enter Finland and stay in the country without registering their presence for a maximum of three months.

A list of states whose citizens need a visa to enter Finland (visa nationals) can be found on the website of the Ministry Foreign Affairs of Finland. Finland is a signatory state of the Schengen Convention, and the following countries are also members of the Convention: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark (with the exception of Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. In addition, the following states participate in the Schengen cooperation by virtue of separate agreements: Andorra, the Holy See, Iceland, Monaco, Norway and San Marino. EU Member States that do not yet apply the Schengen Convention are Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and the United Kingdom.

A Schengen visa can be applied for at the embassy or consulate of the main country of destination of the travel or, in case of travelling to Finland only, at a Finnish embassy. Provided that there is no single main country of destination, the visa application should be submitted at the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country which will be entered first.

A visa application has to be lodged well in advance of the travel. Depending on the case, the handling of the application may last from one to two weeks. The application has to be submitted to the embassy or consulate by the applicant in person.

To apply for a visa in Prague, please visit the Finnish Embassy and present the following:

  • a visa application form carefully filled in and signed by the applicant
  • a valid travel document;
  • one passport-size photograph;
  • clarification of the purpose of your travel;

  • evidence of sufficient funds to cover living expenses during the travel;
  • travel insurance covering the cost of eventual unexpected illness or accident, including the repatriation of the patient (also in case of death) up to 30,000 euro.

    A processing fee is charged when the application is submitted at the Embassy in Prague. This amount will not be returned even if the application is rejected for some reason.
