The exhibition Echoes – 100 Years in Finnish Design and Architecture, created in honour of Finland’s centenary celebration, opened to an interested audience in the Dvorana Exhibition Hall of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic on Thursday 2.3.2017. The guests and representatives of the Embassy were able to enjoy the beautiful exhibition that is a part of the Finland100 centenary anniversary programme.
Opening speeches were held by Ambassador of Finland Helena Tuuri, Secretary of State of the Prime Minister's Office of Finland and the Chairman of the Finland100 Board Paula Lehtomäki and by the Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic Marek Mad’aric. The opening of the exhibition was attended by numerous guests from Slovak state representatives and representatives of the foreign embassies to designers, cultural envoys and media. Present were also the General Honorary Consul of Finland in Slovakia, Mr. Karol Kállay and his spouse Mrs. Slavomira Kállayová whose contribution to the organization of the exhibition was priceless.
As Ambassador Tuuri noted in her speech, it is a natural choice to celebrate the Centenary through design and architecture as they are big parts of the Finnish identity. This central role of design
in the Finnish everyday life is a key message of the Echoes exhibition since every Finn can certainly find a familiar item among the exhibition artifacts. The
Echoes exhibition presents selected, beloved classics of Finnish design and architecture alongside less well-known gems from the beginning of the country’s independence until the present.
The Echoes exhibition will be touring the Central European countries through the year 2017. The exhibition first took place at POLIN –Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Warsaw, from January 13 till February 23 and has now travelled to the Dvorana Exhibition Hall of the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia where it will take place March 3-28. The next stop will be at FUGA Budapest Center of Architecture from June 29 till July 17. After this it will be shown in Mánes Exhibition Hall, Prague, on October 19-30, 2017. Its last stop will be at Felleshus, The Nordic Embassies Compound, Berlin, from November 9 till January 28, 2018. The Embassy of Finland is very happy to be able to arrange two of the exhibitions along the tour first in Bratislava this March and then in Prague in October.
The Exhibition will be opened for the public on 3rd March 2017 at the Dvorana Exhibition Hall of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The Exhibition will be open Tuesday-Sunday, 10:00 – 18:00, 23.-28. March and admission is free. The Embassy of Finland would like to warmly welcome everyone to see the exhibition.
