The opening of the glasswork exhibition "Organika" by Riikka Latva-Somppi and Maxim Velčovsky took place on the 1st of September at Galerie Kuzebauch under the auspices of Mrs. Helena Tuuri, Ambassador of Finland. The exhibition will run until the 8th of October.

The exhibition opening drew a lot of interest and the atmosphere at the intimate exhibition space was warm and welcoming as guests admired the both fragile and strong works on display. Here the human body was presented in the form of glass, and as the exhibition webpage describes:

"The unifying element of the exhibition is the human body and its parts shown in an unexpected and rather provocative context. No doubt that the fragile human body, resembling, for its fragility, a piece of glass, has inspired generations of artists."

Finnish glasswork seems to be well known in the Czech Republic, as participants at the exhibition were able to name numerous Finnish designers and artists. The Czech Republic itself is famous for its high quality crystal and glass products.

Riikka Latva-Somppi works as a free artist and is also involved in public art projects. The environmental art foundation chose her public work Näktergalen "Nightingale" as the environmental work of the year in 2009. In her own words her art deals with the emotions and observations of everyday life and how we perceive the environment and objects around us.

Maxim Velčovsky is a Czech designer and lecturer at the Academy of Arts. He mainly works with glass and porcelain and his works have been exhibited both home and abroad and they have been included in the collections of for example the Museum of decorative arts in Prague and the Victoria and Albert museum in London.
